ryn Mulhern Benefield

I'm excited about us getting to feel more whole. We're not helping ourselves, or the earth, or the people we're in community with if we're shutting down, breaking off and killing parts of ourselves. We learn quite early to value some and shut down other parts of ourselves, and the oppressive, dominating, greed-driven forces of our world traumatize us so that we can no longer access vital parts of ourselves. And its messed up that it's even our job to take care of ourselves in the first place - that we have to heal from things that aren't even our fault. But we do - or at least, we can. It is possible.

I'm a trans/nonbinary/genderqueer/AFAB person and my experiences of AFAB socialization, and marginalization as a GNC/trans person heavily influence the stance that I take when I show up in my work with clients. I see therapy as a liberatory space to resist oppressive forces including racism, capitalism, ablism, xenophobia, transphobia, and fat-phobia. One amazing, inspiring human that I've gotten to work with once described our work as "co-creating freedom." I believe we are incredibly adaptive and creative in the ways that we support ourselves in coping with and healing from traumatic experiences, including structural violence and systemic oppression. I trust that you are the expert of your own experience, and accept and welcome you and all of your parts, exactly as you are.

I work with adults, teens, couples and families including people of all gender identities and sexual orientations, and am body, sex and sex work positive. I'm here to witness, guide and make space for my clients to feel all parts of themselves and hopefully experience more of their own agency and authenticity.
